Floater Expert Modec Collaborates with Carbon Clean Solutions for FPSO-based Carbon Capture Technologies

Floater expert Modec has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Carbon Clean Solutions, aiming to develop and deploy FPSO-based offshore post-combustion carbon capture technologies.

The primary goal of this agreement is to expedite the deployment of Carbon Clean’s onboard carbon capture solution specifically designed for Modec-designed FPSOs.

As part of the collaboration, Carbon Clean will adapt its rotating packed bed CycloneCC technology to suit the typical emission profile of a Modec FPSO. If successful, this adaptation would enable post-combustion carbon capture to become a standard feature on future FPSO projects.

Commenting on the partnership, Aniruddha Sharma, Chair and CEO of Carbon Clean, stated, “This agreement is a major step toward commercializing onboard carbon capture for FPSOs and sets a precedent for the broader maritime industry.”

This development comes on the heels of Modec’s FEED contract with Samsung E&A in February for the installation of a carbon capture system on an FPSO. The pilot program marked the first-ever installation of the CycloneCC solution on an FPSO.
