The Naming and Delivery Ceremony of LNG-Fueled Capesize Bulker for JFE Steel

The recent naming and delivery ceremony for the LNG-fueled Capesize bulker ordered by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for JFE Steel took place at the Saijo Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan.

The 210,321-ton vessel was christened Verde Heraldo by JFE Steel’s President and CEO, Masayuki Hirose, in the presence of MOL executives and other dignitaries.

Under long-term transport contracts, the bulk carrier will be tasked with supplying raw materials to JFE Steel’s mills, offering both reduced environmental impact and safe, reliable marine transport services.

Post-departure from Saijo Shipyard, the vessel will receive LNG fuel through shore-to-ship bunkering at the Senboku Terminal of Osaka Gas before embarking on its maiden voyage to Australia, as per MOL’s statement.

Notably, the long-term charter agreement between JFE Steel and MOL was signed in 2021, solidifying their partnership in sustainable shipping practices.

The MOL Group’s commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 underscores its dedication to environmental stewardship. The company plans to further expand its LNG-fueled fleet in line with its sustainability goals.
