Monadelphous Secures New Contracts in Australian Energy Sector
Monadelphous, an Australian engineering group, has recently announced significant achievements in the energy sector with the acquisition of new contracts worth over $100 million. The company has landed a new assignment on a natural gas field development off the coast of Western Australia and a contract extension for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Queensland.
Crux Platform Development in Western Australia
The first contract was secured with Technip Energies for the provision of multidisciplinary services related to the hook-up and commissioning of Shell’s Crux platform in Western Australia. The Crux field development area, located approximately 620 kilometers northeast of Broome, forms part of the long-term backfill to Shell’s Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility.
The project includes a 165-kilometer pipeline connecting the Crux asset to the Prelude FLNG facility, with work expected to be completed by late 2026. The operator, a joint venture between Shell Australia and SGH Energy, made a final investment decision for the project in May 2022. First gas production is anticipated in 2027.
Australia Pacific LNG Project Extension in Queensland
Meanwhile, Monadelphous’ fabrication services business, Inteforge, has secured a two-year extension of its master goods agreement with Origin Energy for supplying wellsite equipment for the Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) project in Queensland. APLNG is a joint venture between ConocoPhillips Australia, Origin Energy, and Sinopec.
The Australia Pacific LNG project involves the development of coal seam gas resources in the Surat and Bowen basins, a 530-kilometer transmission pipeline, and an LNG facility on Curtis Island near Gladstone. Origin Energy oversees the gas fields and main transmission pipeline operation, while ConocoPhillips manages the LNG facility construction and operation on Curtis Island.
The project includes two trains with a capacity to produce 4.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG, two 160,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks, a loading jetty for LNG ships, and a control center.
With these new contracts and extensions, Monadelphous continues to play a significant role in the development of Australia’s energy sector, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the country’s natural gas industry.
