China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited Holds Naming Ceremony for New LNG Carrier

China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited recently conducted a naming ceremony for a state-of-the-art liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier at Hudong Shipyard in Shanghai, China. The vessel is set to join Qatar Energy’s expanding fleet, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two companies.

The ceremony, held on July 22, 2025, unveiled the LNG carrier Al Mas’habiyyah, the second of three newbuilds commissioned by QatarEnergy LNG. The vessel is slated for delivery to its charterer next week, following the successful handover of its predecessor, Al Tuwar, in mid-May as part of Qatar Energy’s fleet expansion initiative.

Al Mas’habiyyah, boasting a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters, belongs to the fifth-generation Changheng series developed by Hudong-Zhonghua. The vessel has been meticulously designed to meet Qatar Energy’s stringent technical specifications for operating the world’s largest LNG fleet. It is equipped with GTT’s cutting-edge NO96 L03+ membrane system, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

The vessel’s name, derived from the Arabic term masabih (lamps or sources of light), embodies the concept of guidance and energy. According to GTT’s General Manager for China, Adnan Ezzarhouni, this name symbolizes the vessel’s role in transporting cleaner fuel across the globe, promoting sustainability and innovation in the maritime industry.

Measuring 299 meters in length, with a beam of 46.4 meters and a depth of 26.25 meters, Al Mas’habiyyah features a twin-skeg hull design and incorporates a range of low-carbon and digital technologies. The vessel has been classified by both the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the China Classification Society (CCS), ensuring compliance with international safety and quality standards.
