Damen Shipyards Group Signs Contract with İÇDAŞ for Local Construction of ASD Tug

Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards Group has inked a deal with Turkish conglomerate İÇDAŞ for the construction of an azimuthing stern drive (ASD) tug locally in Türkiye.

The vessel will be built under the Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) agreement, allowing İÇDAŞ to construct the tug at its shipyard in Çanakkale. The tug will be used at İÇDAŞ ports on the Sea of Marmara.

İÇDAŞ operates two ports in the region, with İÇDAŞ 1 boasting 1,655 meters of berthing space and İÇDAŞ 2 featuring 624 meters of berthing space.

The ASD Tug 2813, part of Damen’s Compact Tugs range, measures 27.59 meters in length and has a beam of 12.93 meters. It can deliver 83 tonnes bollard pull ahead and up to 80 tonnes astern.

“We are delighted to sign this contract with İÇDAŞ, marking a milestone for Damen’s operations in Türkiye. This collaboration paves the way for local construction of our vessel designs in the country,” said Emre Turkoz, Regional Sales Director of Damen.

İÇDAŞ, a family-owned company founded in the 1880s, is Türkiye’s largest private steel producer and is active in shipbuilding, energy, logistics, port operations, and more.

Recently, Damen also signed a contract with Istanbul-based Arena Offshore A.S. for the local construction of two Stan Tugs 1606, marking Damen’s first design collaboration with an external company in Türkiye.
