STAX Introduces Two New Emissions Filter Barges for California Ports

Two new emissions filter barges developed by a company called STAX are preparing to enter service, bringing innovative solutions to reduce emissions at California ports. These new barges will play a crucial role in meeting the stringent regulations set by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to reduce emissions from on-berth vessels.

Expanding Service at the Port of Benicia

One of the new barges will be deployed in an expansion of services at the Port of Benicia, a vital entry point for vessels from Asia, Europe, and Mexico. STAX’s partnership with AMPORTS, an automotive ports logistics provider, will see the deployment of the fourth barge to this port, where approximately 260,000 imported vehicles are handled annually.

First Dedicated Barge for Tankers at the Port of Los Angeles

The second barge will be the first dedicated to tankers at the Port of Los Angeles, marking a significant milestone in emission reduction efforts. STAX has entered into a partnership with Shell Oil Products to service tankers calling at the Shell Mormon Island Terminal, providing emissions capture and control services for approximately 1,600 hours per year.
