New Fortress Energy Signs Five-Year Agreement to Deploy FSRU in Egypt

US-based LNG player New Fortress Energy has recently inked a five-year deal with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) for the deployment of the 138,250 cu m Energos Winter FSRU at EGAS’ LNG import terminal in Damietta.

This agreement marks the company’s second FSRU to be stationed in Egypt, alongside the Energos Eskimo, set to join the fleet as early as August this year. The Energos Eskimo, a 2014-built 160,000 cu m vessel, will operate at EGAS’ LNG import terminal at Ain Sokhna for the next decade.

Yasseen Mohamed, executive managing director of EGAS, expressed his satisfaction with the deal, stating, “Under this agreement, NFE’s second FSRU, Energos Winter, will provide regasification services at the Damietta terminal, contributing to the security of natural gas supply for the Arab Republic of Egypt over the next five years.”

In addition to the Energos Winter and Energos Eskimo, New Fortress Energy has also stationed the 2021-built 174,000 cu m Energos Power in Egypt since late May. The deployment of the Energos Power followed the cancellation of its contract with Deutsche ReGas in February. Egypt now boasts a total of four FSRUs, with the first unit operating in the country since 2024.
