Subsea7 Secures Contract with ConocoPhillips for FEED Study in Norwegian Waters

Subsea7, a leading subsea engineering, construction, and services company, has announced the securing of a contract with U.S. energy giant ConocoPhillips for a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for the Previously Produced Fields (PPF) development project in Norwegian waters.

The PPF is situated in the Greater Ekofisk Area, approximately 290 kilometers southwest of Stavanger, and will be connected to the existing Ekofisk Complex.

Under the contract with operator ConocoPhillips Skandinavia, Subsea7 will conduct the FEED study to finalize the technical definition of the proposed subsea development. Work on the project will commence promptly at Subsea7’s office in Norway.

This project falls under a new framework agreement between the partners. Should the development receive final investment approval and regulatory clearance, ConocoPhillips has the option to award a significant subsea structures, umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF) scope contract to Subsea7, valued between $300 million and $500 million. Offshore installation activities related to this contract are anticipated between 2026 and 2029.

Erik Femsteinevik, Vice President of Subsea 7 Norway, expressed enthusiasm about the agreement, stating: “We are delighted to have signed a Framework Agreement with ConocoPhillips and have been awarded this initial FEED contract. The study will enable Subsea7 to engage early in the field development process, optimising design solutions and contributing to the final investment decision. We look forward to working closely with ConocoPhillips to unlock further value in the Greater Ekofisk Area.”

The Greater Ekofisk Area comprises three producing fields – Ekofisk, Eldfisk, and Embla – with production transported via the Ekofisk Complex to receiving terminals in Emden, Germany (gas), and Teesside, UK (oil).
