Canada’s Ocean Supercluster Invests in Amphibian UWILD Remote Robotic Platform Project

Canada’s Ocean Supercluster (OSC) is making a significant investment of $940K in the Amphibian UWILD Remote Robotic Platform Project. This innovative project aims to enhance the efficiency and safety of ship hull inspections while reducing the risks associated with traditional diving methods.

Enhancing Ship Hull Inspections

The Amphibian robot, developed by Marine Thinking, is expected to revolutionize the way ship hull inspections are conducted. By combining cutting-edge technology with remote control capabilities, the robot can perform inspections above and below the waterline, covering large areas and accessing confined spaces that are challenging for human divers.

With the ability to pinpoint defects and provide detailed data for accurate predictive maintenance analysis, the Amphibian UWILD offers a more comprehensive and efficient solution for hull cleaning and inspections.

Developing a Launch and Recovery System

As part of the project, Marine Thinking will be developing a Launch and Recovery System (LARS) for the Amphibian robot. This system will ensure the efficient and safe deployment and retrieval of the robot, further enhancing the overall effectiveness of the inspection process.

By partnering with Innvotek and Innovate UK, both based in London, England, Marine Thinking is leveraging global expertise and resources to drive innovation in underwater inspection technologies.

Investment from Canada’s Ocean Supercluster

Canada’s Ocean Supercluster’s investment of $330,560 in the project underscores the organization’s commitment to supporting cutting-edge research and development in the maritime industry. The remaining funding for the project is provided by project partners, highlighting the collaborative nature of this innovative initiative.
