Danish Underground Consortium Completes Well Completion Test for Tyra II Gas Redevelopment Project
The Danish Underground Consortium (DUC), consisting of TotalEnergies EP Denmark, BlueNord, and Nordsøfonden, has successfully concluded the well completion test for the natural gas redevelopment project in the Danish sector of the North Sea.
BlueNord has reported that the completion test for Tyra II has met the requirements set by RBL Bank, with gas exports exceeding expectations and achieving production targets.
Gas exports needed to exceed 191 mmscfpd on average over a rolling 30-day period, a target that was surpassed in February, leading to the successful completion test in March.
Upon meeting the Tyra completion test, BlueNord is set to reach a significant milestone, enabling the commencement of distributions to its shareholders. This achievement paves the way for a $253 million cash distribution, expected to be declared as a return of paid-in capital soon.
The completion test was evaluated based on parameters reflecting the performance of the Tyra facilities, considering oil and gas production, as well as the ramp-up period. The field, discovered in 1968 and producing since 1984, is Denmark’s largest natural gas field, located 225 kilometers west of the coast of Esbjerg.
Tyra Field Redevelopment
The Tyra field underwent redevelopment due to natural subsidence, causing the platforms to sink nearly five meters over 35 years of production. Production and exports from the field were temporarily halted in September 2019, resuming in March 2024 post-redevelopment.
Challenges arose post-redevelopment, including issues with transformers supplying power to gas compressors, delaying full commissioning. Technical capacity was expected to be reached by February 2025 after overcoming operational obstacles.
Following the resolution of operational challenges, Tyra II successfully achieved full technical capacity in April 2025, marking a significant milestone for the project.
The Tyra field comprises two main process centers, Tyra East and Tyra West, linked to five unmanned satellite fields. Gas is exported to shore, while oil is exported to the riser platform Gorm E.
The successful completion of the well test and the achievement of production targets underscore the commitment of the Danish Underground Consortium to the sustainable development of the Tyra II gas redevelopment project.
