The Journey of Nexans Electra: A New Cable-Laying Vessel
The partially outfitted hull of a new cable-laying vessel (CLV) for Nexans has set sail from Poland to Norway for finalization.
Nexans Electra, based on an ST-297 CLV design by Skipsteknisk, follows its sister vessel Nexans Aurora, with delivery expected next year from Norway’s Ulstein Verft.
CRIST shipyard in Poland announced today that the CLV’s hull has commenced its journey to Norway after the grand block ceremony in September 2024.
The 155.2 meters long and 31 meters wide cable layer is tailored for power and fiber-optic cable laying and servicing. It features three turntables with a 13,500-ton loading capacity, enabling bundle laying of up to four cables simultaneously, along with subsea tooling like jetting and burial tools.
Palfinger, Remacut (part of NOV), Red Rock, and Hydroniq Coolers are among the suppliers providing equipment for Nexans Electra.
With the vessel’s delivery on the horizon, the industry awaits the capabilities and efficiency this new cable-laying vessel will bring to the offshore energy sector.
