Nexans Secures Framework Agreement with RTE for HVDC Cable Supply

Nexans, a global leader in advanced cabling and connectivity solutions, has announced a significant framework agreement with Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) for the design, manufacturing, and supply of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables. These cables will play a crucial role in connecting three offshore wind farms to the French transmission network, marking a significant milestone in France’s renewable energy transition.

Key Details of the Agreement

Under the framework agreement, Nexans will be responsible for the supply, installation, and commissioning of a total of 450 km of HVDC subsea cables and 280 km of high-voltage onshore cables. These cables will be used to link the Centre Manche 1 and 2, as well as the Oléron offshore wind farms, to the national grid, facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources into the electricity network.

The value of the framework agreement exceeds $1 billion, with the final amount subject to the agreed quantities and the selection of subcontractors for each Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) contract. This partnership underscores Nexans’ commitment to supporting France’s target of achieving 45 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050, a crucial step towards a more sustainable energy future.

Nexans’ Commitment to Sustainability

Christopher Guérin, CEO of Nexans, emphasized the company’s dedication to driving the energy transition in Europe through cutting-edge transmission solutions. He highlighted the importance of strengthening the resilience and sustainability of the power grid, underscoring Nexans’ role in enabling a more connected and sustainable future.

Guérin stated, “This landmark agreement with RTE reinforces Nexans’ position at the forefront of the energy transition in Europe. By delivering state-of-the-art transmission solutions, we are not only supporting France’s ambitious offshore wind targets but also strengthening the resilience and sustainability of the power grid. Nexans remains committed to enabling a more connected and sustainable future, leveraging our expertise to drive forward the large-scale renewable energy projects that will define tomorrow’s energy landscape.”
