Ningbo Zhoushan Port Signs Agreement to Develop Green Shipping Corridors
Ningbo Zhoushan Port in East China has signed an agreement with one Spanish and two German ports to initiate the development of green shipping corridors and spur maritime decarbonization.
During a maritime forum in Zhejiang this week, the Chinese port formalized the agreement, aiming to deepen low-carbon cooperation with European counterparts—the Port of Hamburg, the Port of Wilhelmshaven, and Valenciaport. This collaboration positions Ningbo Zhoushan Port as the hub with the largest number of green shipping corridors in China.
The partnership focuses on promoting the green development of the shipping industry through the adoption of innovative technologies.
Furthermore, at the forum, Ningbo Zhoushan Port inked various agreements, including a joint venture agreement with COSCO Shipping Lines, a strategic cooperation agreement with Sinotrans, and a strategic cooperation framework agreement with COSCO Shipping Bulk. Additionally, a memorandum of cooperation with Abu Dhabi Ports Group was also signed.
Ningbo Zhoushan Port, known as the busiest port in the world in terms of cargo tonnage, was established in 2015 following the merger of Ningbo Port Group and Zhoushan Port Group in China’s Zhejiang province.
In a related development, the Port of Shanghai in China previously signed an agreement with Hamburg Port Authority to establish a green shipping corridor in October 2024.
The collaboration between the two port authorities aims to provide shore power connections to all container terminals, promote environmentally friendly fuels, and encourage stakeholders to commit to the green shipping corridor’s objectives.
