NKT Launches Integrated Cable Monitoring Platform for Power Cables

NKT has introduced a cutting-edge cable monitoring platform aimed at ensuring continuous operation of both on- and offshore power cables. This innovative solution integrates multiple sensors and technologies to provide a comprehensive overview of power cable conditions, ultimately enhancing the reliability of power cable grids.

The platform combines data from various sensors, including vessel location, acoustic sensing around the cable, depth of burial of the cable under the seabed, and conductor temperature. By analyzing this data collectively, the platform can detect potential risks such as vessels passing slowly, fishing equipment or anchors being pulled near the cable, and other activities that may pose a threat to the cable’s integrity.

When certain parameters surpass predefined thresholds, the platform triggers an alert, enabling monitoring personnel to take necessary actions to prevent damage and strengthen the grid’s resilience.

Stefan Persson, Director of Cable Monitoring Solutions, Service & Installation at NKT, commented on the launch, stating, “Our new cable monitoring platform signifies a significant advancement in ensuring the reliability and safety of power cables. By consolidating multiple sensors into a unified platform, we can deliver situational awareness and proactive monitoring, which are essential for maintaining uptime and averting potential issues.”

Moreover, the platform offers features that furnish cable owners with detailed insights into cable performance, documentation, information from marine survey inspections, current spare parts inventory status, and notifications for replacing parts nearing expiration. This proactive approach aids in pinpointing areas of focus to uphold cable operational status and enhances preparedness levels for preventive measures.
