NKT Completes First Installation Campaign to Connect Offshore Oil & Gas Development Area in Norway
Denmark-headquartered power cable manufacturer and installation company NKT has successfully completed the first installation campaign in Norway to connect an offshore oil & gas development area to shore.
NKT is currently in the process of installing 255 kilometers of HVAC power cables to connect the Yggdrasil area to shore. The company’s cable laying vessel (CLV) NKT Victoria, certified to run on biofuel, has completed the initial installation campaign in the Norwegian fjords and the North Sea. Once completed, the 145 kV cables will provide a stable, low-emission power supply.

The development of Yggdrasil on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) is led by operator Aker BP with Equinor and Orlean Upstream Norway as license partners. Estimated at over $10.3 billion, Yggdrasil comprises the Hugin, Fulla, and Munin license groups, holding gross resources of over 700 million barrels of oil equivalent. The entire area will be remotely operated from an integrated operations center and control room onshore in Stavanger.
Aker BP initiated the construction phase in September 2023. The new infrastructure will include three platforms, nine subsea templates, new pipelines for oil and gas export, and power from shore. NKT highlighted its collaboration with Equinor during cable design, production, and installation.
