Fugro Secures Five-Year Contract with NOAA for Hydrographic Survey Services
Fugro, a leading provider of geo-data services, has recently announced the acquisition of a new five-year contract with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for hydrographic survey services. This indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract will see Fugro supporting NOAA in the creation and maintenance of nautical charts, essential for safe and efficient maritime navigation within U.S. waters.
As part of the contract, projects will be assigned to one of six companies holding an IDIQ contract, based on NOAA’s current priorities. The contract will be overseen by NOAA’s Office of Coast Survey (OCS), which is responsible for maintaining the nation’s nautical charts. These charts cover vast areas, including 153,000 kilometers of shoreline and 3.6 million square nautical miles of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes waters up to the outer limits of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone.
NOAA OCS has been relying on IDIQ contracts with private-sector firms since 1996 to fulfill its critical mission. Fugro has been a longstanding partner in this effort, introducing advanced technologies like airborne lidar bathymetry and remote and autonomous survey techniques to enhance survey safety, speed, and sustainability.
The new IDIQ contract, which is set to be effective from January 1, 2025, until December 31, 2029, will be managed from Fugro’s Hydrography Center of Excellence in Houston. Céline Gerson, Fugro’s Group Director for the Americas and President of Fugro USA, expressed pride in continuing the partnership with NOAA to provide accurate and up-to-date hydrographic data for mariners operating in U.S. waters.
