NYK Line Invests in Northern Offshore Group to Prepare for Future Expansion in Offshore Wind Industry

NYK Line, a prominent player in the maritime industry, has recently acquired co-ownership of Northern Offshore Group (N-O-G), a leading crew transfer vessel (CTV) operator. This strategic investment comes in anticipation of the projected growth of offshore wind projects, especially in waters closer to Japan.

With over 60 CTVs operating globally, N-O-G has established itself as a key player in the offshore wind sector. The collaboration between NYK and N-O-G dates back to 2019, with N-O-G joining the NYK Group following the majority acquisition of its shares by NYK.

By joining forces, N-O-G will benefit from NYK’s extensive global network, facilitating further technical advancements and expansion. On the other hand, NYK will gain valuable operational insights in preparation for the expected surge in offshore wind activities in Japan’s vicinity.

David Kristensson, CEO of N-O-G, expressed his enthusiasm for the expanded partnership with NYK, emphasizing their shared values and vision for the future. Kristensson will continue to lead N-O-G, with Carl-Johan Hagman, NYK executive officer and head of NYK Group’s European region, assuming the role of chairman of N-O-G’s board of directors.

Speaking on the collaboration, Hagman highlighted the mutual commitment of NYK and N-O-G to uphold the highest operational standards and drive innovation towards achieving zero emissions by 2050. The partnership aims to pioneer marine technical solutions that prioritize environmental sustainability while enhancing customer service.

“The co-ownership of N-O-G by NYK marks a natural progression of our longstanding partnership. While N-O-G will maintain its independent identity and ‘Donsö-spirit’, it will now have access to the vast resources of the NYK Group,” said Hagman.
