NYK Group’s Northern Offshore Group Acquires Mistral Enabler Service Operation Vessel from Edda Wind

Northern Offshore Group (N-O-G), a subsidiary of the NYK Group, has recently made a strategic acquisition by purchasing the Mistral Enabler service operation vessel (SOV) from Edda Wind. This move marks N-O-G’s entry into the SOV segment, further solidifying its position in the offshore wind industry.

The Mistral Enabler SOV, now renamed Northern Ocean, is an 81-meter-long vessel with the capacity to accommodate up to 60 personnel onboard. This addition to N-O-G’s fleet enhances its capabilities in supporting offshore operations, particularly in the construction and maintenance of offshore wind power generation facilities.

With a portfolio of over 60 crew transfer vessels (CTVs) and prior experience in managing SOVs, N-O-G is well-equipped to leverage the potential of the Northern Ocean. The vessel’s advanced features are designed to improve comfort and work efficiency for both the crew and customers, aligning with NYK’s commitment to providing reliable and high-performing solutions in the offshore wind sector.

NYK’s strategic investment in N-O-G, becoming a co-owner in February 2025, underscores its foresight in preparing for the expected growth of offshore wind projects near Japan. The acquisition of the Mistral Enabler SOV demonstrates N-O-G’s readiness to meet the demands of the evolving offshore wind market and strengthen its position as a key player in the industry.

David Kristensson, CEO of N-O-G, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to excel in this new segment, citing their past experience in SOV management as a solid foundation for success. The Northern Ocean is poised to enhance operational efficiency and provide a superior working environment for all stakeholders involved in offshore wind projects.
