NYK and Akita Eisen KK Form Joint Venture for Offshore Wind Support Services

NYK and Akita Eisen KK have come together to establish Japan Offshore Support (JOS), a joint venture company aimed at providing ship maintenance and management services for offshore wind power projects. This partnership also focuses on offering training and employment opportunities for seafarers, with a special emphasis on recruiting local talent to support the development of offshore wind projects and the local community in Akita Prefecture.

JOS will primarily be responsible for the maintenance and management of crew transfer vessels (CTVs) used in offshore wind power generation. Leveraging NYK’s experience in operating ships at Ishikari Bay New Port, expertise gained from collaborations with Northern Offshore Services for CTV operations, and Akita Eisen KK’s local knowledge and know-how, JOS aims to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality services to ensure a stable electricity supply from offshore wind power generation in Japan.

NYK’s commitment to renewable energy projects is further highlighted by the comprehensive cooperation agreement signed with Akita Prefecture in 2022. This partnership encompasses various initiatives, including the promotion of renewable energy projects and the development of related human resources, showcasing NYK’s dedication to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.

With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and community engagement, the establishment of JOS marks a significant step towards advancing offshore wind power projects in Japan and fostering economic growth in Akita Prefecture. Through this joint venture, NYK and Akita Eisen KK are poised to make a positive impact on the renewable energy sector and contribute to the long-term sustainability of Japan’s energy landscape.
