Ocean Winds Granted License for Hanbando Wind Farm in South Korea
Ocean Winds, a joint venture between France’s Engie and Portuguese electric utilities company EDP, has received an electricity business license for its Hanbando wind farm off the coast of South Korea.
The Hanbando project, a 1,125MW bottom-fixed offshore wind farm, is situated in the exclusive economic zone off Incheon. This license provides the project with exclusive development rights over the sea space and reserves interconnection capacity.
With the license now in hand, Hanbando Offshore Wind will commence the environmental impact assessment, obtain necessary permits, conduct site investigations, and start main engineering studies.
By undertaking this project, Ocean Winds aims to support South Korea’s renewable energy deployment target of achieving 125.9GW by 2038. Furthermore, the company is committed to assisting Incheon City in reaching its goal of developing 6.2GW of offshore wind power capacity by 2030.
