OceanAlpha Launches L42 Uncrewed Surface Vessel at Ocean Business 2025
OceanAlpha made a splash at Ocean Business 2025 in Southampton, UK, by unveiling its latest maritime autonomy solution, the L42 Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV). This cutting-edge vessel is set to revolutionize offshore data collection with its innovative features in endurance and payload flexibility.
Efficiency and Innovation
The L42 USV boasts a hybrid power system that grants it an impressive operational range of over 1,500 km (equivalent to 8 days at 4 knots), reducing the need for frequent vessel retrievals during extensive surveys. With four redundant electric motors ensuring enhanced stability, the L42 can be deployed in a variety of sea conditions, from coastal waters to open ocean environments.
Workflow Integration
Designed for seamless workflow integration, the platform is compatible with a range of standard survey instruments, including multibeam echosounders, towed side-scan sonars, magnetometers, sub-bottom profilers, and USBL positioning systems. Its onboard wet-end payload lifters and towing system enable quick configuration changes for different missions, such as hydrographic mapping, pipeline inspections, and scientific research.
Successful Testing and Delivery
The first production unit of the L42 USV has already passed third-party acceptance testing with flying colors. It is scheduled for delivery to an African surveying company in April 2025, marking a significant milestone for OceanAlpha and the maritime industry.
