OEG Energy Group Introduces GEOBASE: A Revolutionary Vessel Dimensional Control Assurance Solution

OEG Energy Group (OEG) has recently launched GEOBASE, a groundbreaking solution in the offshore industry. GEOBASE is the first dedicated vessel dimensional control assurance tool for survey and positioning systems on ships and subsea vehicles that includes calibration software.

One of the main features of GEOBASE is its function as a database that helps in documenting survey vessel geometry and standardizing the measurement of vessel dimensions, sensor placements, and reference points. In addition, it conducts calibration and verification for all installed heading and attitude sensors to ensure accurate positioning and survey data integrity.

Survey teams often encounter challenges arising from inconsistencies between hardware and software manufacturers, leading to varying configurations and sign conventions in vessel survey setups. These discrepancies can result in positioning errors, operational risks, and costly delays. GEOBASE eliminates this complexity by allowing users to manage and quality-assure vessel geometry, installed survey sensors, and their relationships throughout the ship’s lifecycle or project duration.

Developed by OEG’s team of dimensional control surveyors and software engineers, GEOBASE provides an independent resource for verifying vessel and subsea asset functionality and accurate positioning data. The software supports all vessel types and subsea vehicles, including ROVs, trenchers, and offshore structures requiring precise calibration.

Extensive field testing has further validated GEOBASE as the new industry standard for vessel dimensional control and calibration assurance, showcasing its precision and ease of use. OEG offers a two-day training course to equip dimensional control teams with the necessary knowledge and skills to maximize GEOBASE’s capabilities.

Brian Gamet, survey director for OEG’s subsea division, emphasized the importance of accurate vessel dimensional control surveys for offshore operations that rely on precise positioning. These surveys employ advanced metrology techniques such as offset calculation, sensor alignment calibration, vessel antenna alignment, and node position verification to ensure millimeter-precision measurements.

With the introduction of GEOBASE, OEG is set to revolutionize vessel dimensional control assurance in the offshore industry, providing a comprehensive solution for enhancing survey and positioning systems onboard ships and subsea vehicles.
