OMS Group to Expand Fleet with New Cable-Laying Vessels

Malaysian provider of subsea digital infrastructure solutions OMS Group has announced plans to add more cable-laying vessels to its fleet. The company recently issued a request for proposal (RFP) for the construction of two next-generation vessels.

This strategic move follows OMS Group’s earlier booking of newbuilds at Dutch builder Royal IHC, with the first vessel expected to be delivered in 2027. Backed by US investment firm KKR, OMS Group aims to meet the growing global demand for reliable and efficient subsea telecommunications infrastructure.

Speaking about the expansion plans, the company stated, “This initiative represents a significant step forward in our fleet expansion plans, addressing the increasing global demand for robust and efficient subsea telecommunications infrastructure. We invite shipbuilders and maritime technology providers to participate in the RFP process.”

Currently, OMS Group’s fleet includes five cable layers, two cable lay barges, three AHTS vessels, and one chartered OSV.
