Orient Cable Wins Contracts for Longest Offshore Wind Projects in China

Chinese power cable manufacturer Orient Cable has secured two new export cable contracts in China, marking significant achievements in the country’s offshore wind industry. The company announced that it had been awarded contracts for two projects, including the supply of a 500 kV line for what is considered the longest offshore distance in China’s offshore wind sector.

500 kV EHVAC Offshore Wind Subsea Cable Project

Orient Cable, in partnership with China Southern Power Grid, secured an EPCI contract for a 500 kV extra high-voltage AC (EHVAC) offshore wind subsea cable project with a transmission capacity of 1 GW. The project, located in Guangdong Province and developed by Energy China, involves the installation of a 92-kilometer-long cable route. The scope of the contract includes supply, design, engineering, manufacturing, transportation, pre-commissioning, installation, and testing.

The company’s expertise in EHVAC offshore energy industry was highlighted in a social media post, where Orient Cable stated that this project further advances high-end EHVAC power transmission technology.

Longest Distance Export Cable Supply Project

In a separate announcement, Orient Cable revealed that it had been awarded an export cable supply contract by China Southern Power Grid for an offshore wind project with the longest distance in China to date. The export cable route spans approximately 118 kilometers and involves the supply of a 500 kV HVDC 2500 mm2 subsea cable system with a transmission capacity of 2 GW.

The company’s commitment to innovation and R&D in the HVDC power transmission industry was evident in this project, as Orient Cable continues to lead in technology advancements for offshore wind projects.

With a focus on delivering high-quality cables for offshore wind applications, Orient Cable remains a key player in the global renewable energy sector.
