PD Ports Announces £200m Investment in Teesport Offshore Gateway

PD Ports has unveiled plans for the construction of the Teesport Offshore Gateway, a major offshore wind manufacturing and installation hub in the UK. With an estimated investment of £200m, the project aims to leverage nearly 730,000 sq m of development potential to support various offshore manufacturers, assembly, marshalling, and supply chain services.

The Teesport Offshore Gateway will feature a deepwater riverside quay stretching up to 1 km, providing direct access to the North Sea for both floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind projects. This strategic infrastructure development aligns with the UK government’s ambitious goals for offshore wind expansion.

While still in the early stages, PD Ports is actively engaging with the offshore renewables sector, including original equipment manufacturers, developers, government entities, and industry experts, to shape the direction of the Teesport Offshore Gateway. Collaborative efforts will focus on identifying opportunities for funding and partnerships to ensure the site meets the evolving needs of the industry.

Insights from the offshore sector will play a crucial role in refining the detailed plans for the Teesport Offshore Gateway, ensuring that the facility is equipped to support future industry demands effectively.

The project has already secured planning and marine consent to extend an existing riverside berth, enabling the development of a 15.5m deepwater mooring capable of accommodating all current and planned offshore installation vessels worldwide. This expansion will not only bolster the offshore wind infrastructure but also future-proof Teesport as a versatile port facility.

In addition to its significance for offshore wind activities, the creation of a new deepwater berth at Teesport will open up opportunities for additional bulk and container facilities, complementing PD Ports’ existing Teesport Container Terminal and the Tees Bulk Quay.
