Petrobras Plans to Increase Production from FPSOs Offshore Brazil

The company’s head of exploration and production, Sylvia dos Anjos, recently announced Petrobras’ ambitious plans to ramp up production from several FPSOs operating offshore Brazil.

One of the key FPSOs in focus is the Almirante Tamandare, Petrobras’ largest FPSO currently in operation. Situated on the Buzios field in the Santos basin, this unit, chartered from SBM, has been a standout performer.

Having commenced operations in February, the Almirante Tamandare surpassed expectations by achieving peak production of 225,000 barrels of oil per day, three months ahead of schedule. Dos Anjos hinted at the potential to further boost production to 250,000 barrels per day.

Not content with stopping there, Petrobras is exploring the possibility of enhancing the FPSO’s capacity even more. Renata Baruzzi, the company’s director of engineering, technology, and innovation, disclosed that SBM is actively working to elevate production levels to as high as 270,000 barrels per day.

However, such an expansion would necessitate approvals from regulatory bodies like Brazil’s environmental agency Ibama and the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP).

Aside from the Almirante Tamandare, Petrobras is also mulling over increasing production at other FPSOs, including the Duque de Caxias FPSO chartered from Modec, operating on the Mero field within the Santos Basin.

Furthermore, a third FPSO is being evaluated for a potential production boost, although its specific name remains undisclosed at this point.
