Singapore’s PIL Holds Naming Ceremony for First LNG Dual-Fuel Containership

Singapore-based shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL) has recently celebrated the naming ceremony for its inaugural 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership, Kota Oasis.

The ceremony took place at the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding yard in China, marking the launch of the first vessel in PIL’s O Class series, which consists of four eco-friendly ships.

Equipped with Win-GD’s XDF engines featuring iCER (Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling), Kota Oasis can operate on LNG as well as bio-methane fuels, offering a more sustainable alternative. The vessel is designed to significantly reduce methane emissions and has ammonia intermediate-ready fuel tanks onboard.

Lars Kastrup, CEO of PIL, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Kota Oasis to our fleet. This vessel signifies a major step forward in our sustainability efforts and operational excellence. By investing in LNG dual-fuel ships, we have made a firm commitment to reducing our environmental impact and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.”

“Alongside our recent addition of the 14,000 TEU “E” class vessels, the “O” Class ships will enhance our global connectivity and cater to the evolving demands of our customers,” Kastrup added.

PIL’s decision to invest in LNG technology aligns with its long-term strategy to enhance fleet efficiency and sustainability. The company has completed a fleet of four 14,000 TEU LNG containerships and has 13 more LNG dual-fuel vessels on order for delivery in the coming years.
