Prosafe Secures Multi-Million Dollar Contract Extension with Petrobras for Safe Zephyrus Vessel

Oslo Stock Exchange-listed semi-submersible accommodation vessel owner and operator Prosafe has announced a significant contract extension for one of its key assets, the Safe Zephyrus. The vessel, currently providing safety and maintenance support to Brazilian state-owned energy giant Petrobras, has been awarded a 954-day extension, solidifying Prosafe’s position in the region.

Contract Details

After successfully winning the bid in a competitive process initiated by Petrobras, Prosafe secured a firm commitment of 650 days with a total value of approximately $73 million. The Safe Zephyrus, which began its assignment with Petrobras in April 2023 following its contract with BP in the North Sea, has now been extended to remain in operation until September 2027.

The contract extension includes an increase in the fuel allowance from 20 to 25 cubic meters per day, bringing the total value of the extension to approximately $109.7 million.

Vessel Details

The Safe Zephyrus, a 2016-built semi-submersible unit constructed at Jurong Shipyard, Singapore, features the GVA 3000E design. Equipped with a DP3 system and a 12-point wire mooring arrangement, the vessel boasts a large open deck area of over 1,000 square meters and two 50-tonne cranes.

Prosafe CEO Terje Askvig expressed his satisfaction with the contract extension, highlighting the vessel’s exceptional performance in supporting safety and maintenance operations within Petrobras’ Buzios business unit offshore Brazil.

Future Operations

While the Safe Zephyrus continues its vital role in Brazil, Prosafe’s other assets are also gearing up for new assignments. The Safe Caledonia is set to commence work on the Captain field in the UK sector of the North Sea for Ithaca Energy in June 2025, while the Safe Boreas will be mobilized from the North Sea to Australia in the second quarter of 2025.
