Vladimir Putin Orders Aid to Iran After Port Explosion
MOSCOW, April 27 – President Vladimir Putin has ordered several planes to be sent to Iran to help deal with the aftermath of a blast at Iran’s port of Bandar Abbas, Russia’s emergency ministry said on Sunday.
Putin has expressed his condolences over the loss of life and offered to provide help to Iran in dealing with the aftermath of the blast, the Kremlin said.
He conveyed “words of sincere sympathy and support to the families of the victims, as well as his wishes for a recovery to all those injured.”
The emergency ministry mentioned that a Beriev Be-200 amphibious aircraft specializing in firefighting, along with an Ilyushin Il-76 military transport plane, would be dispatched to Iran to assist in the relief efforts.
Reports from Iranian state media indicated that a massive explosion, likely caused by the detonation of chemical materials, resulted in the death of at least 25 individuals and left over 700 injured on Saturday at Bandar Abbas, Iran’s largest port.
