V.Ships Partners with REV Ocean for Groundbreaking Research Vessel

V.Ships, a subsidiary of V.Group, has announced a strategic partnership with REV Ocean to provide comprehensive ship management services for the REV Ocean vessel. This vessel is hailed as the world’s largest and most advanced research and expedition ship, currently under construction at Vard Søviknes in Norway.

The REV Ocean vessel is designed to facilitate research across the entire marine ecosystem, utilizing cutting-edge technology systems. Scientists and experts will leverage this state-of-the-art vessel to conduct research expeditions focused on addressing critical issues such as CO2 emissions, plastic pollution, and unsustainable fishing practices impacting the ocean.

Equipped with diesel-electric engines and a 3 MW lithium-ion battery pack for peak shaving, the vessel ensures optimal efficiency while at sea. An independent science and innovation board will oversee and recommend research projects, guaranteeing the highest scientific standards and research quality on board.

The vessel’s capacity to accommodate 106 individuals, with 50-65 crew members depending on operations, underscores its scale and capability. It is equipped with advanced scientific tools including echo sounders, sonars, an eco-harvesting trawl sampling system, a submarine, an ROV, and multiple on-board laboratories for comprehensive research.

Scheduled for final outfitting in 2025, the REV Ocean vessel is set to commence full operations in early 2027, marking a significant milestone in marine research and conservation efforts. The collaboration between V.Ships and REV Ocean signifies a commitment to advancing scientific exploration and environmental sustainability in the world’s oceans.
