The Responsible Offshore Development Alliance (RODA) Commends President Trump’s Decision on Offshore Wind Energy Leasing

The Responsible Offshore Development Alliance (RODA) extends its gratitude to President Trump for his recent decision to temporarily withdraw all areas on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) from consideration for new or renewed wind energy leasing. This important move demonstrates an understanding of the crucial role that our communities, industries, and ecosystems play in the broader national interest.

RODA sees this decision as a much-needed pause that allows for a reassessment of the future of offshore wind development and its potential impacts on our coastal environments and local economies. It is an opportunity to collaborate with the new administration as they review federal leasing and permitting practices for offshore wind projects.

Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

RODA is excited to work with government leaders to ensure that all voices, especially those of the fishing industry, local businesses, and environmental stakeholders, are heard as we move forward. The organization and its members are committed to collaborating with the Trump Administration as they undertake this critical review.

The decision to halt the authorization of further activities that could impact navigational safety, transportation, national security, and marine mammal protection interests shows a commitment to understanding the risks associated with offshore wind projects. Protecting marine life, especially vulnerable species like whales, must remain a top priority as we explore renewable energy solutions.

Protecting Coastal Communities

RODA celebrates the reprieve granted to regions that have not yet been subject to offshore wind leases. This gives these areas essential time to engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of offshore wind and its compatibility with local priorities and concerns. It is crucial to ensure that any future offshore wind development is done in a manner that protects both the environment and the communities who call these coastal areas home.

As we navigate the evolving landscape of offshore wind energy, RODA remains committed to working collaboratively with the Trump Administration to promote sustainable practices that benefit both our coastal communities and the environment.
