Royal Caribbean Group Partners with CPN for B24 Marine Biofuel Delivery in Hong Kong

Cruise holding company Royal Caribbean Group has teamed up with bunker service provider Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical (CPN) for B24 marine biofuel delivery in Hong Kong.

As a result of this collaboration, on January 2, 2025, CPN delivered ISCC-EU certified b24 marine biofuel to Royal Caribbean’s 2008-built cruise ship Celebrity Solstice in Hong Kong.

“This landmark delivery not only sets a new standard for cruise lines but also strengthens Hong Kong’s role in the global transition to greener maritime practices,” CPN said.

Government’s Green Maritime Fuel Bunkering Action Plan

To remind, the government laid out the Action Plan on Green Maritime Fuel Bunkering on November 15, 2024, setting out clear strategies and actions to promote the development of Hong Kong into a high-quality green maritime fuel bunkering center.

The Action Plan lists five green-centric strategies and ten actions, covering a wide range of areas such as the supply of green maritime fuels, infrastructural support, port emissions reduction, incentive measures, collaboration with the Mainland and overseas, and talent training.

With the timely implementation of the Action Plan, the government expects that Hong Kong will provide bunkering services to ocean-going vessels powered by green maritime fuels such as LNG or green methanol for over 60 times a year by 2030, involving over 200,000 tonnes of green maritime fuels.

CPN’s Initiatives in Green Maritime Fuel Market

In line with this plan, CPN formed a partnership with Hong Kong and China Gas Company (Towngas) to develop domestic and international green methanol marine fuel markets.

CPN also delivered marine biofuel to various maritime industry players in the last year, including Hong Kong-based container shipping company Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation, and Singapore’s Swire Shipping.
