Ocean Technology Partnership Revolutionizes UK Civil Engineering Industry
Ocean technology specialists RS Aqua have recently announced a groundbreaking partnership with Copenhagen-based technology firm, UVision. This collaboration opens up a new avenue to introduce expert underwater 3D imaging technology to the UK civil engineering industry, with a strong focus on affordability.
The highlight of this partnership is the launch of the UScanner, a cutting-edge underwater imaging device that will be available for purchase starting July 30, 2025, exclusively through RS Aqua. The UScanner is set to revolutionize the industry by offering incredibly precise scans of harbor walls, civil engineering sites, and more.
With a combination of high-definition stills and positioning data, the UScanner ensures the efficient and reliable generation of photorealistic 3D models. One of its key features is the UController software, which enables real-time Point Cloud rendering to guide operators during recording. Additionally, the dual camera system with a global shutter sensor ensures simultaneous capture of all pixels.
After deployment, the collected scans are processed using the UVisualiser cloud server. The UVision team oversees the post-processing phase, while the customer is responsible for inspection, measurement, and annotation of the data.
Key features of the UScanner include:
- Full-color sensor
- 2.3MP resolution, 90° field of view
- 200m Depth Rating
- IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) and Depth Sensors
- 1TB of Storage
- Low Data Bandwidth <20Mbps (Typically <10Mbps)
- Simple-to-use User Interface
- Millimeter-level accuracy
- Real-time Point Cloud Rendering
This innovative partnership between RS Aqua and UVision marks a significant step forward in the utilization of advanced underwater imaging technology within the civil engineering sector. The introduction of the UScanner promises to enhance the efficiency and precision of underwater scanning operations, ultimately benefiting a wide range of projects within the UK civil engineering industry.
