Moscow Declares State of Emergency After Ukrainian Drone Attack in Novorossiisk

The mayor of the Russian port city of Novorossiisk declared a state of emergency on Saturday following a Ukrainian drone attack that caused significant damage to a grain terminal and several residential buildings, resulting in injuries to five individuals.

While there was no immediate comment from Ukraine, Russia’s air force claimed that Ukraine had carried out the attack in retaliation for Russia’s own offensive involving 183 drones and two ballistic missiles.

Andrei Kravchenko, the mayor of Novorossiisk, personally inspected the aftermath of the attack, which included damage to three apartment buildings. The scene was captured in a video released on his official Telegram account, showing the destruction caused by the drone strike.

Among the injured was a woman in serious condition, along with two children who sustained injuries as well, according to local authorities.

The governor of Russia’s Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratyev, reported that falling debris from the drones had also damaged three storage units at a grain terminal, leading to a fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in this incident.

The owner of the damaged grain terminal, Delo Group, confirmed that cleanup efforts were underway and that the fire had been extinguished. The company reassured that operations at DeloPorts terminals were continuing as usual under the guidance of relevant authorities.

As investigations into the drone attack continue, the city of Novorossiisk remains on high alert, with authorities working to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
