Saildrone has announced the completion of a $60m funding round led by the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO).

Other contributors to this funding round include existing investors Lux Capital, Washington Harbor Partners, Crowley, and Academy Securities, as well as new investor Pinegrove.

Saildrone’s unmanned surface vehicles employ advanced sensors and proprietary AI algorithms to provide comprehensive insights into the maritime environment, both above and below the water’s surface.

The initial deployment of four Saildrone Voyagers is scheduled for June 2025 in the Baltic Sea, under a contract with the Danish Armed Forces.

The funding will facilitate the introduction of Saildrone’s technology in Europe, aiming to enhance maritime security for critical infrastructure and various defence applications.

The Baltic Sea, North Sea, and European Arctic regions are currently experiencing significant threats, highlighting the increasing need for continuous maritime domain awareness, according to the company.

EIFO CEO Peder Lundquist said: “We are thrilled to invest in Saildrone and that Denmark has been chosen as the centre for Saildrone’s European activities.”

Saildrone founder and CEO Richard Jenkins said: “Denmark’s unique geographic and political position at the heart of northern Europe makes it the perfect place to establish our European headquarters and operational hub.”

In March this year, Saildrone formed a strategic alliance with Palantir Technologies to rapidly advance autonomous systems for maritime AI solutions.
