Sanfu Shipbuilding Launches 13,000 dwt Multi-Purpose Vessel for BBC Chartering
China’s Sanfu Shipbuilding recently announced the launch of a 13,000 dwt multi-purpose vessel named BBC Bremen for BBC Chartering, a shipowner under the German-based Briese Schiffahrt Group.
The vessel, with hull number SF130226, has been classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR) and boasts impressive dimensions. It measures 149.95 meters in total length, with a length between perpendiculars of 143.05 meters, a beam of 23.20 meters, a depth of 10.5 meters, a designed draft of 8.50 meters, and a speed of 15.5 knots.
This vessel marks the tenth in a series ordered by BBC Chartering from Sanfu Shipbuilding. All vessels in this series are multi-purpose triple-deckers with a lifting capacity of up to 500 metric tons, offering superior fuel efficiency compared to vessels of similar size.
Featuring bridge and crew accommodation at the ship’s front and two cranes on the portside, the vessel provides 2,830 sqm of unobstructed space on the weather deck. The box-shaped cargo holds can accommodate nearly 26,000 cubic meters of cargo on a floor space of close to 5,000 sqm when both tween decks are utilized.
The German company highlighted the environmental benefits of these vessels, stating that the increased cargo capacity below deck enables up to 30% reductions in greenhouse gas emissions per freight ton carried. Additionally, the vessel is certified to operate with open hatches, further enhancing its versatility.
With BBC Chartering’s fleet comprising more than 140 multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels ranging from 4,000 to 40,000 dwt and featuring lifting capacities of up to 800 metric tons, the addition of BBC Bremen reinforces the company’s commitment to efficient and sustainable shipping practices.
