Dutch Firm SBM Offshore Signs Operations and Maintenance Contract with TotalEnergies for Suriname FPSO

Dutch floater expert SBM Offshore has inked a crucial operations and maintenance agreement with French energy giant TotalEnergies for the GranMorgu FPSO set to operate offshore Suriname.

The contract was officially signed with TotalEnergies EP Suriname, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies. The FPSO unit will play a vital role in the field development project situated in offshore Block 58.

This operations and maintenance contract covers the operation readiness phase leading up to first oil, along with the provision of operations and maintenance services for a minimum of two years post first oil, with the possibility of extension periods.

SBM Offshore stated, “This contract solidifies SBM Offshore’s enduring strategic partnership with TotalEnergies and signifies a significant milestone as SBM Offshore becomes the primary FPSO operator in Suriname.”

The GranMorgu project is positioned 150 km off the coast of Suriname and represents the initial oil and gas development off the country’s shores.

Last November, TotalEnergies placed an order for the GranMorgu FPSO from SBM Offshore. As part of the agreement, the company, alongside Technip Energies, will construct the FPSO following the completion of FEED studies and the final investment decision on the project.

As part of the project, TotalEnergies also awarded significant contracts to Saipem and TechnipFMC valued at $2.9bn. Additionally, in May this year, Staatsolie secured a $1.6bn loan with a group of 18 international, regional, and local banks and financial institutions to partially finance its 20% participation in the project.
