Zenith Energy Successfully Completes Well Project in Baltic Sea
Zenith Energy, a leading well engineering consultancy based in Aberdeen, has wrapped up its scope of work for a well drilled in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Poland. The project, known as the Wolin East 1 (WE 1) well, was completed in collaboration with Noble Corporation and Central European Petroleum.
The challenging drilling operation, which took place in extremely shallow waters, involved Noble Corporation’s Noble Resolve jack-up rig. The well was drilled, cored, and logged before being suspended for future re-entry for Central European Petroleum.
Zenith Energy’s role included providing full well management, from engineering to logistics, ensuring a safe and efficient operation. Martin Booth, Managing Director of Zenith Energy, expressed pride in the successful completion of the project and thanked Central European Petroleum for their collaboration.
CEP is now analyzing the data obtained from the drilling operation, with initial results looking promising. The Wolin concession, covering 593 square kilometers, holds potential for significant hydrocarbon reserves in the Ca2 main Dolomite and Rotliegend reservoirs.
Rolf G. Skaar, CEO of Central European Petroleum, highlighted the strategic importance of the Wolin concession in bolstering Poland’s natural gas supply and supporting the country’s decarbonization efforts. The area is envisioned as a key natural gas hub with future plans for an LNG facility and fueling of ships.
Central European Petroleum emphasized the unique opportunity presented by the Wolin license, which allows for exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons in an area with limited prior drilling activity in the Baltic Sea.
The successful completion of the WE 1 well project marks a milestone in the collaboration between Zenith Energy, Noble Corporation, and Central European Petroleum, showcasing the expertise and capabilities of the involved parties in navigating complex drilling challenges.
