Seaspan Energy Completes First Ship-to-Ship LNG Bunkering in Canada

Seaspan Energy (Seaspan) has made history by completing the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in Canada. The groundbreaking operation took place in the Port of Vancouver in the Upper Harbour, where the Seaspan Lions conducted the bunkering to a tanker at anchor. The tanker, named after the twin peaks of the North Shore, also known as Ch’ich’iyúy Elxwíkn (“Twin Sisters” or “Two Sisters”) in the Squamish Nation, marks a significant milestone in the maritime industry.

This achievement follows Seaspan Energy’s first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in December 2024 in the Port of Long Beach to a containership. With a fleet of three 112m long LNG bunkering vessels, Seaspan is well-positioned to serve the West Coast of North America and meet the growing demand for LNG fuel in the region.

Driving Innovation in the LNG Fuel Market

Seaspan Energy’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly maritime solutions is evident in its pioneering efforts in LNG bunkering. By leveraging LNG as a cleaner alternative to traditional marine fuels, Seaspan is not only reducing emissions but also driving innovation in the LNG fuel market.

As the global LNG fuel market continues to mature and evolve, Seaspan’s fleet of LNG bunkering vessels stands ready for further deployment, ensuring reliable and efficient bunkering services for vessels operating along the West Coast of North America.

Collaboration and Partnership

The successful completion of the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in Canada would not have been possible without the collaboration and partnership between Seaspan Energy, the Port of Vancouver, and the Squamish Nation. By working together, these stakeholders have demonstrated their commitment to sustainable maritime practices and set a new standard for LNG bunkering operations in Canada.

Seaspan Energy’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and collaboration positions the company as a leader in the LNG bunkering sector, paving the way for a cleaner and more efficient maritime industry.

As Seaspan continues to expand its LNG bunkering operations and strengthen its presence in the North American market, the company remains committed to driving positive change and shaping the future of sustainable shipping.
