Seaturns Secures €2.45 Million for Wave Energy Technology Deployment
French wave energy developer Seaturns has recently announced the successful fundraising of €2.45 million to support the industrialization and deployment of its innovative wave energy technology. The fundraising round, which saw participation from 1,543 investors on the LITA.co platform, marks a significant milestone for the company.
The fundraising round also saw contributions from key partners such as Team for the Planet, Sébastien Duez, and Lawrence Sigaud, who will be joining Seaturns as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, further strengthening the team.
“This support is crucial to deploy our full-scale demonstrator starting from the summer of 2025 and accelerate our industrial development,” said Vincent Tournerie, Founding President of Seaturns.
Deployment Plans and Technology
The secured funding will enable Seaturns to deploy a scale-1 demonstrator at the SEM-REV test site managed by OPEN-C Foundation, kickstart industrial-scale production, and support international commercialization efforts.
Seaturns’ wave energy device has undergone 18 months of sea trials at Ifremer, demonstrating robustness, performance, and potential to contribute to decarbonized power generation in Europe and beyond. The SEM-REV site offers essential resources such as subsea infrastructure, environmental monitoring tools, and technical support to mitigate risks before market entry.
The company’s wave energy converter (WEC) is designed for cost efficiency, easy offshore installation, minimal maintenance, and reduced environmental impact. By focusing on lowering production and operating costs compared to existing technologies, Seaturns aims to revolutionize the wave energy sector.
Seaturns’ technology harnesses ocean wave motion to generate electricity through a cylindrical WEC anchored with a patented solution. The device converts horizontal wave movement into a pitching motion, driving a turbine coupled to an alternator within the WEC to produce electricity.
Future Plans and Expansion
In April, Seaturns initiated a fundraising campaign to scale up its wave power technology following years of research, development, and testing. The company subsequently signed an agreement with Fondation OPEN-C to deploy a full-scale demonstrator at the SEM-REV offshore test site near Le Croisic, with installation scheduled for summer 2025.
