Senator Roger Wicker Meets with Navy Secretary Nominee John Phelan

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, recently had a crucial meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump’s nominee for the 79th Secretary of the Navy, John Phelan.

During their meeting, Chairman Wicker and Mr. Phelan delved into discussions about the current challenges facing shipbuilding and maintenance, the importance of accountability within the Navy, and Senator Wicker’s vision for a larger and more innovative U.S. Navy.

Expressing his thoughts on the meeting, Senator Wicker stated, “I appreciated the opportunity to meet with John Phelan, President Trump’s selection to lead the Department of the Navy. We had a good discussion about rapidly improving American strength on the seas and building a skilled manufacturing workforce to support our sailors and marines. Mr. Phelan would bring impressive business and management experience, as well as real enthusiasm for solving the Navy’s hardest problems, to the job. I look forward to leading his confirmation hearing.”

John Phelan is a seasoned private equity executive and business leader with a track record of success. He also serves on various charitable boards, including Spirit For America, an organization dedicated to supporting U.S. troops abroad.

With Mr. Phelan’s extensive background and commitment to addressing the Navy’s challenges, his potential confirmation as the Secretary of the Navy holds promise for the future of the U.S. Navy.
