Shearwater Geoservices and Searcher Seismic Launch Second Season of Pelotas Basin Multi-Client 3D Seismic Survey in Brazil
Shearwater Geoservices has commenced the second season of acquisition for the Pelotas Basin multi-client 3D seismic survey in Brazil, in partnership with Searcher Seismic. This collaborative effort marks the sixth multi-client 3D project for the joint venture, utilizing the cutting-edge SW Empress seismic vessel to expand the survey area beyond 10,000 sq.km.
The primary goal of this project is to provide valuable insights into the geological structure of the Pelotas Basin through detailed 3D seismic data acquisition. By de-risking exploration activities, facilitating quicker decision-making, and laying the groundwork for successful hydrocarbon discoveries, this survey is set to be a game-changer in the region.
With coverage spanning vast areas of open acreage expected to become available in the upcoming Brazilian Open Acreage Release cycle, as well as acreage awarded in the previous cycle, the Pelotas Basin holds immense potential. Its geological connection with the Orange Basin in Namibia and South Africa, a prominent emerging super basin, further enhances its appeal.
The strategic link between the Pelotas Basin and the Orange Basin presents opportunities to leverage knowledge and discoveries across the Atlantic Conjugate Margin, optimizing exploration strategies and maximizing resource potential. Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater, commented on the significance of this partnership and the project’s potential impact on the industry.
“Shearwater has already amassed over 26,000 sq.km. of multi-client data, solidifying our position in this sector. Our successful collaboration with Searcher Seismic in one of the world’s most promising frontier regions has set the stage for further achievements. The new season’s work presents an exciting opportunity to build upon our shared success,” stated Basili.
