Shell Awards Noble Corporation New Drilling Assignment in the Americas

U.S. offshore drilling contractor Noble Corporation has secured a significant drilling assignment in the Americas with Shell, a prominent UK-based energy company.

The agreement entails Noble’s semi-submersible rig, Noble Developer, undertaking drilling operations for a fixed term of 180 days in the Americas, commencing in Q3 2026. The contract, valued at approximately $70 million, covers mobilization and demobilization costs.

Blake Denton, SVP of Marketing and Contracts at Noble Corporation, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating, “This new contract reinforces our commitment to delivering exceptional results for Shell, prioritizing safety and efficiency. We are excited to continue our successful collaboration with Shell in the region.”

Prior to this deal, Noble Developer had secured a contract with Petronas Suriname E&P to conduct drilling activities offshore Suriname, generating an estimated $84 million. The rig, with a maximum drilling depth of 40,000 feet and capable of operating in water depths up to 10,000 feet, is well-equipped for challenging offshore operations.

In 2024, Noble Corporation was actively engaged in securing various assignments for its rig fleet, including a drilling project in the Gulf of Mexico. The company also announced plans to retire two cold-stacked drillships permanently.

While the utilization environment for floaters may face challenges in 2025 due to white space risk, Noble Corporation remains optimistic about improved market conditions in late 2025 and 2026.
