Singapore’s Proteus Energy Launches Modular Hydrogen Fuel-Based System for Ports and Vessels

Singapore-headquartered clean energy solutions provider Proteus Energy has introduced a groundbreaking solution for the maritime industry – the Proteus Maritime Fuel Cell Solution. This innovative system is set to revolutionize the way ports and vessels operate by harnessing the power of hydrogen fuel.

Proteus Energy’s Maritime Fuel Cell Solution is designed to cater to the specific needs of harbor craft, coastal vessels, offshore support ships, and inland waterway transports. Each fuel stack boasts a 75 kW output, with the flexibility to be combined for larger power requirements.

Developed in collaboration with hydrogen fuel cell company Symbio France, this cutting-edge technology offers a plethora of benefits. These include zero tailpipe emissions, minimal noise and vibration, low maintenance costs, rapid refueling times, and the ability to store hydrogen fuel for extended periods without any loss.

One of the key advantages of the Proteus Maritime Fuel Cell Solution is its compatibility with electric propulsion systems. It not only complements electric engines but also serves as a viable solution for hybrid vessels. By extending the range of these vessels and reducing the strain on batteries, this technology enhances space efficiency and improves overall vessel performance.

The official launch of the Proteus Maritime Fuel Cell Solution is slated for January 2026, with deliveries expected to begin shortly thereafter.

“The maritime industry needs viable clean energy solutions today,” said Lars Gruenitz, CEO of Proteus Energy. “We are providing a high energy density solution that is compact and lightweight, critical for vessels where space and weight considerations are paramount. This best-in-class system is the logical and most cost-effective choice to help operators make a quantum leap in their decarbonization efforts.”
