Global Marine Purchases SMD’s 100th Plough for Subsea Cable Installation

Underwater technology and services company SMD has reached a significant milestone with the sale of its 100th plough to Global Marine, a leading specialist in subsea cable installation and maintenance. This sale marks a continued partnership between the two companies, with a history of collaboration on numerous projects over the past three decades.

Global Marine has integrated the newly acquired Plough M into its fleet, following successful sea trials. Designed to operate in challenging conditions, Plough M offers enhanced stability and efficiency, with a focus on cable protection at a burial depth of up to 2 meters. The vehicle’s low-friction share design ensures minimal fuel consumption, making it a cost-effective solution for subsea operations.

“With a combined legacy of over 200 years in the industry, SMD and Global Marine share a commitment to innovation and excellence in subsea engineering,” said Adam Batsford, Key Account Manager at SMD. “Plough M represents the latest advancement in our plough technology, providing superior performance and reliability for cable installation and maintenance.”

As the demand for subsea connectivity continues to grow, the investment in high-quality equipment like Plough M is crucial for ensuring the integrity and longevity of subsea infrastructure. Mick Beezer, Modular Equipment Manager at Global Marine, emphasized the importance of cable protection through plough burial in safeguarding against damage and minimizing disruptions.
