Sonardyne Launches SPRINT-Nav DP: A Game-Changer for Shallow Water DP Operations

Sonardyne has unveiled its latest innovation in dynamic positioning technology with the introduction of the SPRINT-Nav DP reference system. This groundbreaking system combines high-grade inertial navigation with doppler velocity log (DVL) technology in a single, pre-calibrated unit, offering unparalleled accuracy and reliability for shallow water DP operations.

The Birth of SPRINT-Nav DP

SPRINT-Nav DP was born out of customer feedback and the growing demand for reliable DP solutions in shallow water environments, particularly in the offshore wind farm sector. Extensive trials and validation tests have been conducted to ensure that SPRINT-Nav DP meets all mandatory class requirements, making it a trusted alternative position reference for vessels’ DP systems.

Key Features of SPRINT-Nav DP

One of the standout features of SPRINT-Nav DP is its ability to provide accurate positioning without relying on a GNSS signal. This is especially advantageous in scenarios where GNSS signals may be compromised by spoofing, blockage, or distortion from nearby structures. The system’s DVL bottom-lock technology is effective up to depths of 230 meters, eliminating the need for additional sensors or equipment by using the seabed as a positioning reference.

Operational Efficiency from Day One

Factory pre-calibration ensures that SPRINT-Nav DP is ready for operation as soon as the vessel arrives on site, saving valuable time and streamlining operations. This plug-and-play functionality enhances operational efficiency, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of shallow water applications, including offshore renewable energy projects and nearshore work.

Conclusion

With the launch of SPRINT-Nav DP, Sonardyne has once again demonstrated its commitment to pushing the boundaries of dynamic positioning technology. The integration of high-grade inertial navigation and DVL technology in a single unit offers a reliable and cost-effective solution for shallow water DP operations, setting a new standard for accuracy and efficiency in the industry.
