Stena Drilling Secures Contract for Drillship with Shell in Suriname

Stena Drilling, the Aberdeen-based business of Sweden’s Stena, has been awarded a contract for one of its drillships by subsidiaries of Shell in Suriname.

The contract pertains to the 2008-built Stena DrillMax drillship and has been awarded by Shell subsidiaries KE STP Company and BG International.

Commencing in the second half of the year, the contract includes two firm wells and two optional wells.

This marks the second major contract for the sixth-generation harsh environment drillship in 2025, following a previous contract from TotalEnergies in January.

The drillship, equipped with managed pressure drilling technology, will be deployed for a one-well exploration campaign in the second quarter of the year.
