Subsea7 Secures IRM Contract for Türkiye’s Largest Gas Field

Subsea7 has recently announced that it has secured a significant contract with Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center (TP-OTC) to provide inspection, repair, and maintenance (IRM) services for Türkiye’s largest natural gas field, the Sakarya gas field development in the Black Sea.

The contract includes project management, engineering services, and the provision of equipment, such as work-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and construction personnel, to be carried out from Subsea7 offices in Istanbul, Türkiye, and Aberdeen, Scotland.

Operations are scheduled to take place in 2025 and 2026, with Subsea7 estimating the contract value to be between $50 million and $150 million.

Hani El Kurd, Senior Vice President of UK and Global Inspection, Repair, and Maintenance at Subsea7, expressed his satisfaction with the contract, stating, “We are pleased to have been selected to deliver IRM services for TP-OTC in the Black Sea. This contract demonstrates our strategy to deliver engineering solutions across the full asset lifecycle in close collaboration with our clients.”

The Sakarya gas field, located approximately 150 kilometers off the coast of Ereğli, is Türkiye’s largest natural gas field. Turkish Petroleum had previously awarded a contract to a consortium consisting of SLB, Subsea7, and Saipem for the second planned development phase of the field, which includes subsea production systems and umbilicals, risers, and flowlines.

The project execution will be overseen by Saipem and Subsea Integration Alliance, formed by OneSubsea and Subsea7.

In addition, Türkiye recently welcomed its first-ever floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel, which is set to double gas production from the Sakarya gas field once it begins its 20-year assignment in 2026. Saipem’s pipelay vessel, Castorone, is currently en route to the project site for offshore pipeline installation.
