Subsea 7 Secures Contract with Equinor for Fram Sør Development Study
Subsea7 has recently announced that it has secured a contract with Norway’s state-owned energy company, Equinor, to deliver a crucial study that will finalize the technical definition of the proposed subsea development at a field off the coast of Norway before the final investment decision (FID) is reached.
The project in question is the Fram Sør development, for which Subsea 7 has been appointed to deliver a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study with an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) option.
If the EPCI option is exercised, Subsea 7 will be responsible for the installation of subsea structures, umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF), with the contract value estimated to be substantial, ranging between $150 million and $300 million.
Work on the project will commence immediately at Subsea 7’s offices in Norway and the UK, with offshore installation activities scheduled for 2026, 2027, and 2028.
Erik Femsteinevik, Vice President for Subsea 7 Norway, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with Equinor, stating, “This award continues our long-standing collaboration with Equinor. The study enables Subsea 7 to engage early in the field development process, optimizing design solutions and contributing to the final investment decision. We look forward to working closely with Equinor to unlock the value in Fram Sør.”
The Fram Sør area is strategically located 10-30 kilometers north of Equinor’s Troll C platform, approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Bergen. The development will be connected to the existing Fram and Troll C infrastructure.
In June 2024, it was announced that SLB is set to deliver the FEED of a 12-well, all-electric subsea production systems (SPS) project in the field. The future EPC is expected to be directly awarded to SLB OneSubsea, a joint venture backed by SLB, Aker Solutions, and Subsea 7, conditional on the FID.
