TDI-Brooks Completes Geotechnical Project Offshore Trinidad and Tobago for Geohidra
U.S.-headquartered TDI-Brooks has successfully finished a third-party geotechnical coring project offshore Trinidad and Tobago for Geohidra, a Venezuelan company.
The geotechnical operation took place from the Dragon Field offshore Venezuela to the Shell-operated Hibiscus platform off Trinidad and Tobago’s North Coast, aboard the Dona Jose 2 vessel.
TDI-Brooks utilized the Neptune 3,000 miniature coiled rod CPT system to conduct 18 cone penetration tests (CPTs) with penetration depths ranging from 3.25 to 6.25 meters in water depths of 130 to 150 meters. Additionally, the project involved the completion of 18 box core samples and 18 Cyclic Mini T-Bar tests on the box core samples.
Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela signed an agreement for the joint exploitation of gas in the shared territorial waters and collaboration on the Dragon Field on September 21, 2023.
The Dragon Field, located in Venezuelan waters near the maritime border with Trinidad, is estimated to contain up to 4.2 trillion cubic feet of gas.
In October 2024, the Dona Jose 2, chartered by Geohidra, commenced a geophysical and geotechnical survey for the gas project. This survey initiation occurred just ten months after Trinidad and Tobago was granted a 30-year license to explore, produce, and export gas from the Dragon Field.
